Requirements

• Staff members must be available and on-site for the entirety of Staff training and Camp Fihavanana (Staff training is August 13-17, 2025, and Camp Fihavanana is August 18-29, 2025)

• Fundraising Requirement: This fee covers all food, lodging, camp gear and special excursions during the time of Camp Fi (it does not include flights or international transportation). You can pay this fee however you would like, but we are challenging you to fundraise as much as possible. We will give you the tools and support you need to achieve that goal.

  • Malagasy Staff: 100,000 Ar

  • International Staff: $1500 USD

• Staff members must have graduated high school as of June 2025

• Staff members must speak fluent English

Staff Roles

You will be asked to rank your top choices of roles during the application process. Please read through the following and be prepared with your ranking:

Camp Counselor

A camp counselor will dedicate their time entirely to our campers. You will be in charge of lifting their spirits, checking in on their feelings, keeping attendance, and having fun. You will lead the color teams at camp, support activities, and keep campers safe and on time.

Sports Coach

Each day at camp we coach four sports: soccer, basketball, lacrosse, and a wild card sport (or staff pick). We need at least two coaches for every practice to support students in skill development and confidence. Camp Fihavanana is an all levels sports and leadership camp, and practices are typically 30 minutes each.

Facilitator

Facilitators will lead students through activities that transform their world view. These activities are interactive and require preparation. We need facilitators who are skilled in reading group dynamics, supporting youth in tough conversations, and story telling. We are looking for folks who are creative and take initiative in this role. Programming will include self reflection, social justice, and leadership skill development.

Social Media

Our social media team will be active all week to share the story of Camp Fihavanana with the world. We are looking for a staff person who is excited about finding creative ways to share our story. We are active on Instagram and Facebook throughout the week. You will post on Instagram and Facebook, engage/tag our partners in posts, and engage with followers through direct messages.  

Photographer/Videographer

Our media team will have access to professional equipment to capture, record, and edit film and photos from Camp Fihavanana. We are looking for staff who are inspired by visual story telling and excited about using new equipment. We ask that each person is diligent in respecting the privacy of our campers, and capture moments with consent at appropriate times. Visual storytelling is a vital part of growing our mission!

Program Operations

This role is designed for someone who loves camp and is focused behind the scenes. You are someone who takes initiative, loves to see the big picture, and has good attention to detail. Depending on your skill set you may design programs, prep materials, focus on data entry, and/or support camp staff.

Nurse

Camper health and safety is a huge priority for us! We are looking to hire a nurse who loves camp, who works well with kids, and has skills in treating people with sports injury, stomach flu, travel sickness, and other general first aid. You will need to go the field every day to support our campers at practice and join us for the water fall hike.

DeeJay

We love music!!! Having a solid playlist and good quality music for each moment is essential to a high quality camp experience. You will be provided with an unlimited spotify account for the duration of camp and invited to create playlists for meal time, sports practices, reflective activities, games, and more. You will be in charge of making sure speakers are charged, you are connected to Bluetooth, and the volume is appropriate. YOU SET THE VIBE. 

Note: We are limited in space, and cannot accept all applicants on our Staff each year. The application process to join our Staff is competitive! Please be thorough in your answers, and show us why you would be the best fit on the Camp Fi Staff.
